Doing things in the creative sector ︎

Hi, I’m Dave ︎

Everyone knows someone called Dave. If you don’t, why not get to know me?

I work as an artist, curator and creative consultant.

Most of my time is spent being the CEO & Artistic Director at Humber Street Gallery in Hull.

As an artist, I make films, sculptures, installations and sometimes even a bit of writing. In 2024 I released my debut film Dear Dad, which explores family, relationships, loss and love. It’s on YouTube… plus, it’s only 11 mins long, so you can watch it discreetly at work on a “bathroom break”. It’s a bit of a heavy one though, so I can’t be held responsible if you enter back into the office with watery eyes.

As a curator, I work with artists and galleries to help them build exhibitions. I also try my best to give advice to early career artists and curators on how to avoid making poor decisions. A bit like spellcheck but for career choices.

As a creative consultant, I do all sorts of other things. To be honest, the term ‘Creative Consultant’ is the broadest term to describe all the stuff on my hard drive labelled ‘Misc’. I have been running an artist interview website called YAC for over 10 years, and I also work with a number of charities, and are the chair of Trustees for Grimsby based organisation, Our Big Picture.

Oh, the other part I always forget is I’m mad for sport, so I am also one of the Race Directors for this insane but brilliant cycling event called Pure Peak Grit and I used to be 1/2 of a boutique cycling brand called Curbar (RIP… you will live again!)

But mainly I like drinking coffee with interesting people who make me laugh and who teach me things.

If you feel you fit the bill, please, please, please drop me an email!

I live for an exciting email.

It’s my drug of choice.
